Here are a few specs:

The Viewpad 7e runs on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread OS) unlike the other big name brands that run on the Honeycomb OS. As I mentioned the upside to the others is that it is priced for those with a lower budget.

The ViewPAd 7e also comes with a 1 GHz processor and 512MB RAM and 4 GB of internal storage that can be upgraded up to 32GB. These are very good specifications for the price point. The good sized 800 X 600 multi-touch display is crisp and clear and it supports RiteTouch so you can use a stylus to write on the screen.

Included with the tablet is a 3-megapixel rear facing camera and 0.3-megapixel front-facing camera for your video calls. A HDMI port that supports 1080p HD video is provided as well. Both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are included as connectivity options.

If you want to try something different then the Viewpad 7e it is. It’s affordable and you get some decent features for the price point. An alternative to this tablet is the latest offering from Amazon, the Fire tablet that will be available come November 15^th.

The Acer Iconia Tab A100 comes with Android 3.2 Honeycomb preinstalled. The 7 inch screen, 401 lightweight built is one reason that it is often compared to the Blackberry Playbook.

There are a number of options for connections with the tab including the HDMI port, microUSB, a pair of speaker grilles and a  slim docking port occupy one end and on the other end there is the power button and a headphone port. In case you’re wondering about a port of SD cards it is available under a plastic flap on the top.

The dark screen is a good way to disguise icky fingerprint marks all over the screens (I hate these). Although the screen is quite visible when in use it is almost impossible to see it well at a vertical angle.

The Acer Iconia Tab A100 comes with a built it camera (5 MP) that is fairly decent in its reproduction of images but finding your way around the gallery is a challenge. A Nemo player is employed to manage your video and music playbacks and for viewing of your photos taken with the tab and those imported from an SD card. Although it’s not high tech it is a good match for the screen dimensions of the tab.

If you’re not happy with it you can always opt for a different multimedia app which will enable e-reading, games, social networking, music and video play backs and more on separate screens. Additionally you can use Acer Clear-fi – Acer’s bespoke media manager for accessing content over your home Wi-Fi network. So many options so little time.

If your picture quality means anything to you then you will be happy to learn that pulling your photos in the Acer Clear-fi menu is a complete dream since the images are almost always perfectly reproduced with good levels of zoom. Even though the tablet won’t rotate the images automatically a simple twist and tap here and there with your fingers will change the pictures to the angles that you need. On another high note the photo gallery will be available in the Clear.fi live photo gallery and you can still scroll through the Android Honeycomb tiles of currently active apps.

Some other impressive features of the Acer Iconia Tab A100 include the ease of text entries brought about by the inclusion of symbols that are commonly used on the right of the standard Qwerty key layout. This means that you won’t have to constantly switch between numbers and letters.  The battery life is better than average and there were no issues with freezing and crashing (which is a very common complaint with Android). Another feature I appreciate is the ability to monitor the apps that are hogging the battery power and manually quit them if not in use. Really, the tablet will run for almost five hours before charging is required. This is provided that you do not use it for videos, with video use the battery will run down a lot faster.

To wrap up I have to mention that the GPS module is absolutely amazing. With the help of Google Maps you can find anywhere you want to go quite easily and you can zoom in and see exactly where you need to go.

The attempt to make it easy for those switching from traditional laptops like me to a tablet is what has me sold. Even though it’s a bit chunky when compared to the Samsung Galaxy Tab and the iPad 2 it still is a beautiful device. It includes an SD card slot, usb port, mini usb and a full-sized HDMI port. Of course you can also expect the standard docking port too. The trade-off to me is worthwhile since I would rather a thicker tablet with the convenient ports included. The thickness has not affected the weight in any way in my opinion.

SD Card Slot

Toshiba has gone where no man has gone before and included a full sized SD card slot. It is the first Honeycomb tablet to do so. The SD card slot and the USB ports makes it possible to link with other devices and this is what gives it some of the functionality that you would get with your laptop computer.

Don’t think for a moment that I am not aware of the purpose of the “cloud” but to me having those ports is just convenient and smart. I cannot begin to discuss how many times I plug in devices into my laptop throughout the day and this is the same convenience that I appreciate with my tablet. This is just another feature that has me sold on the Toshiba Thrive.

Vibrant Screen and Color

At first look the screen does not look as vibrant as other tablets on the market but if you turn off the auto brightness you will be able to experience the rich and vibrant color of the screen.

Perfect Pictures

Although most people use their smartphones to take pictures on the go the Toshiba Thrive includes a 5 MP auto focus rear facing camera. It also comes equipped with 720p HD video capture. The front facing camera is very useful for video chats.

The Thrive runs the same Nvidia Tegra 2 platform (dual-core 1GHz CPU, 1GB of memory) just like other Android 3.0/3.1 tablets. It also includes 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB capacities.

Other features I love are the full Flash Player support, strong battery life, slip-resistant rubber grips and not forgetting the perfect price tag.  People who own other Toshiba models know how great the brand is so when shopping for tablets there would be no hesitation is picking up the Toshiba Thrive. It definitely gives Apple a run for the money.

It’s true! According to Roger Fidler, the program director for digital publishing at the Reynolds Journalism Institute at the University of Missouri, this is quite unusual for new technology devices. Usually consumers are dissatisfied by the thirteenth week. The fact that this has not happened with the iPad is quite amazing.

Since the iPad’s first introduction in April 2010, Apple released another model the iPad 2 in March 2011. Another edition is expected sometime this year. Since that release last year there have been a number of tablet releases from other brands. They all have yet to capture a segment of Apple’s market share. Even typical Android smartphone users are going the way of Apple’s ipad rather than the complementary Android tablets.

According to the survey, over 94% of iPad users were very satisfied with their purchases. With the advent of the iPad 2 70% of the 561 respondents indicated that they were even happier with the new release. iPad users enjoy using their iPads while relaxing. They can use it to stay on top of current events or fiddle around with the many apps.

Even though this all still seems to be speculations we know for sure that Amazon has been making plans to release some sort of tablet PC to compliment the Kindle line of products. Moreover I think that Amazon could not have had a better timing since they hype of the iPad 2 is slowly coming to an end as consumers prepare for an upgraded release.

That is not to say that the iPad 2 has not taken the market by storm. It has and its still in demand so much so that people are anxiously awaiting the unveiling of the next update. However the thing is that any upgrades which include the HD which is much talked about would take the price tag beyond most consumers reach.

Amazon will launch its tablet in a way that it does best; online. That means that the price could be significantly lower that Apple’s iPad since they won’t have the costs of launching a product in physical stores.

Meanwhile Amazon has been very silent amidst all these rumors but there have been enough reported to validate that something big is in the works.

Here’s what we know so far:

• A Taiwan based component marker reports that the retailer will launch the Amazon tablet as soon as August of this year.
• They project the sales of 4 million units worldwide.
• The new tablet will use E Ink’s Fringe Field Switching LCD technology. This simple means that it will have a color LCD touch panel unlike the Kindle.
• This will be the perfect device to complement the Amazon AppStore.

All I know is that considering their project sales for the Amazon tablet for this year they better get on it and quit with the secrecy.

Lenovo IdeaPad U1 Hybrid

The concept behind the Lenovo IdeaPad U1 Hybrid is what captured a lot of interest back in 2010. The tablet could easily handle custom linux, ARM tablet, Windows 7 and still provide the look and feel of a laptop. The smart docking system that Lenovo created includes a full functional keyboard on the inside with the tablet display alongside it.

The delay of the release in the Western market seems to have been largely due in part to Lenovo’s overall reluctance to share the product with a demanding and overly critical market. If you really think about it the other tablet releases including that of the first generation iPad would have overshadowed the release of the Lenovo IdeaPad U1 Hybrid. Even though the tablet is good it still failed to measure up to the leader in the tablet PCs; Apple iPad.

The laptop part of the Lenovo IdeaPad U1 Hybrid is powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo ULV processor and Intel integrated graphics. Would it measure up today? So far it is not clear what changes were made but I can say that tablets have evolved a lot since 2010 and the Lenovo IdeaPad U1 Hybrid could stand a chance if it comes with an Android OS.

The iPad is the newest device in Apple’s family. Apple announced on January 27^th, 2010 start of wholly new type of computer – something what could be the most important product launch  for the company .

It looks that nobody is pretty clear in his mind how to categorize the Apple iPad. It is somewhat in between a conventional laptop computer and pocket computers like the iPod Touch. In other words, the iPad is somewhat in between its iPhone and very successful MacBook line. It is a larger and faster version of its iPod Touch.

The build quality of iPad is astonishing and nothing feels inexpensive . The aluminum back feels smooth under the finger. The gadget weight is 1.5 pounds and it is comfortable to hold it at most angles.

There is an audio jack connector for headphones, and a microphone for apps that need it. The speaker is on the bottom of the device and the maximal speaker volume is too soft for me (I prefer to use the headphones). If you   want to fine-tune volume, the volume button is accessible and active at any timewhen the iPad is playing something.

Beside the standard 3.5mm audio connector , the only external connector is the proprietary Apple connector. A number of accessories can be attached to that connector, and this is the only wired way to connect iPad to the outside world.

Mainly all of iPad surface is taken up by a 9.7-inch, capacitive, multitouch LED-backlit screen surrounded by a polished black bezel. The display is sharp and colorful with a resolution of 1024×768. The contrast and colours are brilliant nice and the brightness distribution is very   even despite of the viewing angle. The glossy glass panel in front of the display both protects it and enhances contrast. Such glossy displays are notorious for reflections , but I didn’t find iPad reflections to be a matter . The iPad is easy to tilt a few degrees if reflection are irritating .

Apple gives the iPad a really fast processor. The iPad packs Apple’s custom, PA Semi-designed 1GHz A4 system-on-a-chip — a single Cortex A8 core joined with a PowerVR SGX GPU. Things open fast , scroll fast, load   vey quickly. Surfing the Web is much more better than on the miniature iPhone display .

The iPad uses a built -in rechargeable Lithium-polymer battery that will give you up to ten hours of usage.

You operate the iPad by tapping and dragging on the glass with your fingers, similarly as you operate the iPhone. Some time ago it was almost imposible to consider that you can operate computer without help of the mouse.

The iPad runs iPhone OS 3.2 – basically, it is an iPad-optimized version of the current iPhone OS , adjusted for the iPad’s larger display and new apps. The use of the iPhone operating system and its smart data-entry scheme ( virtual keyboard, multitouch gestures ) turns the iPad into much better gadget than any Windows-based tablet PC we have seen.

For starters, you need to convert the DVD to a format that is compatible with the iPad, which is MP4 (mpeg 4) or H.264 video. Don’t worry too much about the technical details, because the software will do pretty much all of the hard work.
