Acer Iconia Tab A100 Review

acer-iconia-tab-a100

Expert Review

The Acer Iconia Tab A100 comes with Android 3.2 Honeycomb preinstalled. The 7 inch screen, 401 lightweight built is one reason that it is often compared to the Blackberry Playbook.

There are a number of options for connections with the tab including the HDMI port, microUSB, a pair of speaker grilles and a  slim docking port occupy one end and on the other end there is the power button and a headphone port. In case you’re wondering about a port of SD cards it is available under a plastic flap on the top. acer-iconia-tab-a100

The dark screen is a good way to disguise icky fingerprint marks all over the screens (I hate these). Although the screen is quite visible when in use it is almost impossible to see it well at a vertical angle.

The Acer Iconia Tab A100 comes with a built it camera (5 MP) that is fairly decent in its reproduction of images but finding your way around the gallery is a challenge. A Nemo player is employed to manage your video and music playbacks and for viewing of your photos taken with the tab and those imported from an SD card. Although it’s not high tech it is a good match for the screen dimensions of the tab.

If you’re not happy with it you can always opt for a different multimedia app which will enable e-reading, games, social networking, music and video play backs and more on separate screens. Additionally you can use Acer Clear-fi – Acer’s bespoke media manager for accessing content over your home Wi-Fi network. So many options so little time.

If your picture quality means anything to you then you will be happy to learn that pulling your photos in the Acer Clear-fi menu is a complete dream since the images are almost always perfectly reproduced with good levels of zoom. Even though the tablet won’t rotate the images automatically a simple twist and tap here and there with your fingers will change the pictures to the angles that you need. On another high note the photo gallery will be available in the Clear.fi live photo gallery and you can still scroll through the Android Honeycomb tiles of currently active apps.

Some other impressive features of the Acer Iconia Tab A100 include the ease of text entries brought about by the inclusion of symbols that are commonly used on the right of the standard Qwerty key layout. This means that you won’t have to constantly switch between numbers and letters.  The battery life is better than average and there were no issues with freezing and crashing (which is a very common complaint with Android). Another feature I appreciate is the ability to monitor the apps that are hogging the battery power and manually quit them if not in use. Really, the tablet will run for almost five hours before charging is required. This is provided that you do not use it for videos, with video use the battery will run down a lot faster.

To wrap up I have to mention that the GPS module is absolutely amazing. With the help of Google Maps you can find anywhere you want to go quite easily and you can zoom in and see exactly where you need to go.

The Acer Iconia Tab A100 sells for $349 on Amazon.

Review of the Archos 9 PC Tablet

archos-9

Archos 9 could generate quite a commotion during the recent times. It is a netbook that is fashioned like a tablet PC complete with augmented touch screen functionality. It has become quite natural for potential customers to research on the internet before investing on a costly gadget (this netbook retails at $600). Here lies the problem; it seems that the usual crowd of over enthusiastic reviewers found this device to be uninteresting. Reading one or two defamatory reviews is more than ample for an average customer to lose interest with the product. In the subsequent passages, you will realize that Archos 9 has many features that are yet to be connived in any of the competing netbooks.

One of the best attributes that has been cited in the review websites is the inclusion of touch screen on a netbook. Instead of lugging around a miniaturized laptop, now people get to flaunt their priced possession in the form of a miniaturized tablet PC. The device is sufficiently powered to run the everyday tasks like listening to music, watching a movie and browsing through the internet. With 1 GB of physical memory, it can be touted to be extremely responsive to the fingers!

Secondly, the product is preloaded with Microsoft’s newest OS – Windows 7. Industry reviewers and experts claim this OS to be the best one out there ever since Windows XP was released. It is faster than the other OSs released by Microsoft and hence, it complements the Archos 9 with advanced functions. The OS is also lighter when it comes to battery consumption – no wonder the Archos 9 can clock a maximum of five hours of battery backup time. The included processor (Intel Atom Z510) also lends a hand while augmenting the battery backup times.

In some of the reviews you might find them lamenting about the “underpowered” processor. Well, it is a netbook after all and one cannot expect it to function just like your over-clocked desktop or laptop. Give it some time and you will realize that certain features included into the OS, namely ReadyBoost and Superfetch will speed up the machine in no time. If viable, you can also opt for a physical memory upgrade, which will be done for a nominal price by the vendor. Countless reviews have praised the build quality of the Archos 9 – the product feels quite stable in your hands.

The Archos 9 also supports high definition video playback. Although the default resolution of the screen (1024×600) will play spoilsport, you are never going to realize the differences. The presence of ample connectivity options will ensure that you are always connected to a Wi-Fi network. Bluetooth support will enable you to transfer files back and forth the machine. I must say that the device can be termed as an “ultraportable” because it weighs just 800 grams. The manufacturer will load a host of software into the device and this includes office applications too. This enabled one to get started with the device, as soon as they lay their hands on it!

Better features, reliability, great prices make Archos 9 a must buy. To buy Archos 9 visit our site http://www.minidisc.com.au/.

Apple iPad As A Business Tool?

I have been following the mixed reviews of Apple’s iPad because I was still on the fence about making a purchase. While the majority will purchase the iPad for gaming or social networking I have to justify this purchase as a necessary business expense. How will it benefit me in my business? Well, after weighing the pros against the cons, I guess I will join the masses and get the iPad. Here are the primary reasons that I fell off the fence:

  • More portable than my laptop. Yes, it sure seems to be. With its light in weight and slimline I think I would love carrying this around with I head out to business meetings. It won’t replace it but it the features are just sufficient for survival when I am on the road.
  • Long battery life. I travel a lot and the guarantee of at least 10 hours of battery life grabbed me, hooked, line and sinker.
  • Perfect for reading. Due to a hi-res screen, the iPad will be a great option for reading ebooks, especially on a long flight for me. Will it affect Kindle sales I wonder?
  • Create stunning documents for presentations. According to Apple, iWork for iPad applications designed specifically for multi-touch are extremely easy to use.

I look forward to getting my iPad and to using it on days when its too complicated to carry my laptop. Although I cannot envision carrying this along with a laptop and iphone on business trips I am certain it will be a handy tool.
