Consumers Are Loving Their Apple iPad

apple-ipad-2

A study conducted by the University of Missouri reveals that consumers cannot get enough of Apple’s iPad. In fact those who purchased the device are very happy with their purchases with no form of buyer’s remorse.

apple-ipad-2It’s true! According to Roger Fidler, the program director for digital publishing at the Reynolds Journalism Institute at the University of Missouri, this is quite unusual for new technology devices. Usually consumers are dissatisfied by the thirteenth week. The fact that this has not happened with the iPad is quite amazing.

Since the iPad’s first introduction in April 2010, Apple released another model the iPad 2 in March 2011. Another edition is expected sometime this year. Since that release last year there have been a number of tablet releases from other brands. They all have yet to capture a segment of Apple’s market share. Even typical Android smartphone users are going the way of Apple’s ipad rather than the complementary Android tablets.

According to the survey, over 94% of iPad users were very satisfied with their purchases. With the advent of the iPad 2 70% of the 561 respondents indicated that they were even happier with the new release. iPad users enjoy using their iPads while relaxing. They can use it to stay on top of current events or fiddle around with the many apps.

Review of iPad

You are maybe wondering if you should spend $599 or more to buy iPad. Does the iPad essentially revolutionize the conception of a tablet computers ?

The iPad is the newest device in Apple’s family. Apple announced on January 27th, 2010 start of wholly new type of computer – something what could be the most important product launch  for the company .

It looks that nobody is pretty clear in his mind how to categorize the Apple iPad. It is somewhat in between a conventional laptop computer and pocket computers like the iPod Touch. In other words, the iPad is somewhat in between its iPhone and very successful MacBook line. It is a larger and faster version of its iPod Touch.

The build quality of iPad is astonishing and nothing feels inexpensive . The aluminum back feels smooth under the finger. The gadget weight is 1.5 pounds and it is comfortable to hold it at most angles.

There is an audio jack connector for headphones, and a microphone for apps that need it. The speaker is on the bottom of the device and the maximal speaker volume is too soft for me (I prefer to use the headphones). If you   want to fine-tune volume, the volume button is accessible and active at any timewhen the iPad is playing something.

Beside the standard 3.5mm audio connector , the only external connector is the proprietary Apple connector. A number of accessories can be attached to that connector, and this is the only wired way to connect iPad to the outside world.

Mainly all of iPad surface is taken up by a 9.7-inch, capacitive, multitouch LED-backlit screen surrounded by a polished black bezel. The display is sharp and colorful with a resolution of 1024×768. The contrast and colours are brilliant nice and the brightness distribution is very   even despite of the viewing angle. The glossy glass panel in front of the display both protects it and enhances contrast. Such glossy displays are notorious for reflections , but I didn’t find iPad reflections to be a matter . The iPad is easy to tilt a few degrees if reflection are irritating .

Apple gives the iPad a really fast processor. The iPad packs Apple’s custom, PA Semi-designed 1GHz A4 system-on-a-chip — a single Cortex A8 core joined with a PowerVR SGX GPU. Things open fast , scroll fast, load   vey quickly. Surfing the Web is much more better than on the miniature iPhone display .

The iPad uses a built -in rechargeable Lithium-polymer battery that will give you up to ten hours of usage.

You operate the iPad by tapping and dragging on the glass with your fingers, similarly as you operate the iPhone. Some time ago it was almost imposible to consider that you can operate computer without help of the mouse.

The iPad runs iPhone OS 3.2 – basically, it is an iPad-optimized version of the current iPhone OS , adjusted for the iPad’s larger display and new apps. The use of the iPhone operating system and its smart data-entry scheme ( virtual keyboard, multitouch gestures ) turns the iPad into much better gadget than any Windows-based tablet PC we have seen.

Ability to Print With iPad?

In an alleged email from Apple CEO Steve Jobs printing will come to the iPad. According to reports from MacRumors.com Steve responded to a customer query as follows.

Dear Steve,

Why no printing on the iPad? What gives?

Steve reportedly replied:

It will come.

Sent from my iPhone.

MacRumors acknowledges that the rumors are difficult to validate but there have been rumors the Apple is working to bring printing to the iPad to increase the appeal of the iPad, especially for enterprise customers.

Apple iPad As A Business Tool?

I have been following the mixed reviews of Apple’s iPad because I was still on the fence about making a purchase. While the majority will purchase the iPad for gaming or social networking I have to justify this purchase as a necessary business expense. How will it benefit me in my business? Well, after weighing the pros against the cons, I guess I will join the masses and get the iPad. Here are the primary reasons that I fell off the fence:

  • More portable than my laptop. Yes, it sure seems to be. With its light in weight and slimline I think I would love carrying this around with I head out to business meetings. It won’t replace it but it the features are just sufficient for survival when I am on the road.
  • Long battery life. I travel a lot and the guarantee of at least 10 hours of battery life grabbed me, hooked, line and sinker.
  • Perfect for reading. Due to a hi-res screen, the iPad will be a great option for reading ebooks, especially on a long flight for me. Will it affect Kindle sales I wonder?
  • Create stunning documents for presentations. According to Apple, iWork for iPad applications designed specifically for multi-touch are extremely easy to use.

I look forward to getting my iPad and to using it on days when its too complicated to carry my laptop. Although I cannot envision carrying this along with a laptop and iphone on business trips I am certain it will be a handy tool.
